Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. (Col.) Dhaniram Shandil inaugurated the pre-launch event of the 7th National Nutrition Month, emphasizing the state’s commitment to fostering a healthy and empowered future. A comprehensive campaign will be implemented across the state from September 1 to 30, 2024 focusing on the holistic development of women and children.
The state government has undertaken numerous initiatives to enhance health and nutrition standards addressing malnutrition, anemia, and low birth weight in children under six, as well as adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
During the campaign, awareness camps will be conducted in collaboration with the Health and Ayush departments. A tree plantation drive, ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother,’ will be launched in partnership with the Forest and Panchayati Raj Departments to promote environmental conservation. This initiative will be followed by a series of events including cycle rallies, morning walks, annaprashan days, godh bharai, health check-ups for pregnant women and community-based programs.
To further promote nutrition awareness, a social media cooking competition will be organized, featuring traditional Himachali dishes. The event was attended by Secretary Social Justice and Empowerment Ashish Singmar, Director Women and Child Development Rupali Thakur and senior department officials.
