In line with the zero-tolerance policy against chitta, announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the Anti-Chitta campaigns in Shimla on November 15, Dharamshala on December 1, and Hamirpur on December 16, the Himachal Pradesh Police conducted a coordinated statewide operation on Saturday.

A police spokesperson stated that under the PIT-NDPS Act, three notorious chitta traffickers were apprehended from Baddi, Kullu, and Sirmaur, taking the total number of detentions to 65. The message is clear: Himachal Pradesh offers no safe haven for drug traffickers. In addition to preventive arrests, parallel financial investigations have led to the seizure of illegal assets worth Rs. 48 crore so far.

Earlier, on December 6, a historic synchronized operation resulted in the detention of 16 chitta traffickers across multiple districts in a single day.

On December 2, the 6th State-Level NCORD meeting was held at Tapovan, Dharamshala, chaired by the Chief Minister. During the meeting, all ongoing anti-chitta operations were reviewed, and directives were issued to intensify the campaign, transforming it into a statewide people’s movement to eliminate the drug menace.

The Chief Minister has also appealed to citizens, especially youth, to report any information related to chitta or other narcotics by dialing 112 or contacting the nearest police station, assuring complete confidentiality for informers.

Additionally, a two-day statewide special enforcement drive on December 19–20 targeted the illegal sale, misuse, and diversion of restricted medicines. Based on intelligence, 80 suspicious chemist and medical shops were inspected across multiple districts.

Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, action was taken in medical shops in Bilaspur, Baddi, Una, Nurpur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of Pregabalin tablets, other controlled drugs, and Rs. 24 lakh in cash. The drive aimed to dismantle the illegal drug supply chain, protect youth and citizens from substance abuse, and enforce zero tolerance in the pharmaceutical sector.
