Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against narcotics, the Himachal Pradesh Government has intensified its crackdown on the drug mafia. Following the Anti-Chitta Walkathons held on 15 November in Shimla and 1 December in Dharamshala under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the State has accelerated enforcement efforts to eliminate Chitta from all regions. The Chief Minister had issued strict instructions to the Police Department and allied agencies to ensure complete and uncompromising action against drug networks.

Acting swiftly on the Chief Minister’s directives, the Police Department today launched a synchronized, multi-district operation targeting major drug traffickers. Under provisions of the PIT-NDPS Act, 16 major Chitta suppliers have been detained. These include four individuals each from Solan and Dehra, two from Nurpur, three from Baddi, and one each from Hamirpur, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts.

With these arrests, the total number of detentions under the PIT-NDPS Act has increased to 62. Since the Act’s enforcement in 2023, the State has already detained 46 high-profile traffickers and seized illegal assets worth Rs. 48 crore through extensive financial investigations.

The crackdown follows an in-depth review of ongoing anti-drug operations during the 6th State-Level NCORD meeting at Tapovan, Dharamshala, chaired personally by the Chief Minister—marking the first time a Himachal CM has presided over this coordination forum. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated the need to convert the anti-Chitta campaign into a full-scale, people-driven movement across the State.

Enforcement efforts have been further intensified at the grassroots level. To support the mission, the Police Department has urged citizens, especially the youth, to share any credible information regarding drug activity by contacting helpline number 112 or the nearest Police Station. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
