The Himachal Pradesh Police have achieved a significant breakthrough against interstate drug trafficking, targeting chitta and other psychotropic substances, a spokesperson said. The CIA Nurpur team successfully apprehended a key interstate kingpin from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.
The case originated from an FIR registered at Police Station Nurpur on 11 October 2025, when a checkpoint operation at Kandwal barrier led to the seizure of 6.044 kilograms of charas. Three individuals from District Mandi were immediately arrested at the scene.
During further investigation, the main accused, Shubhkaran of Samkehar, Jawali in District Kangra, was tracked down and arrested in Chandigarh on 1 November 2025. The investigation revealed that the consignment was destined for Vijay Kumar, alias V.K., a resident of Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, who was also arrested from his home on 22 March 2026.
The spokesperson noted that this operation delivers a major setback to an interstate narcotics network operating across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh Police remain committed to intensifying anti-drug operations to eliminate such networks completely.
