In a recent review meeting, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the importance of establishing charging facilities along the proposed three Green Corridors Highways in Himachal Pradesh. (Himachal Pradesh Government)These corridors include Parwanoo-Nalagarh-Una-Hamirpur-Sansarpur Terrace, Bilaspur-Hamirpur-Kangra, and Mandi-Dharamshala-Kangra. The aim is to ensure adequate charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) and encourage their usage.

Development Strategies for Green Corridors in Kangra District

During the review meeting held in Dharamshala, discussions were held and strategies were devised to develop the three green corridors in Kangra district. The focus was on creating an ecosystem that promotes electric mobility and reduces carbon emissions. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for charging infrastructure within cities to facilitate the adoption of EVs.

Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Scheme-2023 for EV Adoption (Himachal Pradesh Government)

To encourage the adoption of EVs, the state government has approved the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Scheme-2023. Under this scheme, a uniform 50 percent subsidy will be provided for the purchase of e-taxis, e-buses, and e-trucks. This initiative aims to provide self-employment opportunities for local youth while enabling government departments to hire electric vehicle service providers.

Transitioning Government Vehicles to EVs and Creating an EV Ecosystem

The Chief Minister directed the transport department to organize a meeting with stakeholders within the next 10 days. The government plans to gradually transition all government vehicles to EVs and create a robust electric vehicle ecosystem. By embracing electric mobility, Himachal Pradesh aims to lead the way in green energy, contribute to a cleaner environment, and reduce carbon emissions.
