The Governor of Himachal Pradesh has declared 01st June, 2024 as a “Gazetted Holiday” in the state on account of the Himachal Pradesh General Election to Lok Sabha-2024 and Bye-elections to Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh. This holiday aims to facilitate employees working in various Government Offices, Boards, Corporations, Educational Institutions, and Industrial Establishments to exercise their right to vote.
Additionally, daily wage employees will also receive paid leave, in accordance with Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Furthermore, special paid holidays have been announced for specific border areas in Himachal Pradesh on various dates due to general elections in neighboring states. These include:
- 01st June, 2024 (Saturday): For registered voters of Punjab State working in border areas of Una, Kangra, Chamba, and Solan Districts.
- 19th April, 2024 (Friday): For registered voters of Jammu & Kashmir UT working in border areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba Districts.
- 25th May, 2024 (Saturday): For registered voters of Haryana State working in border areas of Sirmour & Solan Districts.
- 19th April, 2024 (Friday): For registered voters of Uttarakhand State working in border areas of Sirmour & Shimla Districts.
- 19th April, 2024 (Friday): For registered voters of Uttar Pradesh State working in border areas of Himachal Pradesh.
- 20th May, 2024 (Monday): For registered voters of Ladakh State working in border areas of Himachal Pradesh.
These special paid holidays are applicable to all government, semi-government, and industrial establishment employees who are registered voters in the respective states/UT. It’s emphasized that special casual leave may be granted to employees working in different places within the state but eligible to vote in other constituencies, upon presenting a certificate from the presiding officer confirming the casting of their vote.
These holidays are also recognized as special paid holidays under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, ensuring employees have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process without any hindrance.
