The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a monumental step towards sustainability by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading companies in the presence of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. This agreement focuses on developing five green corridors in the state, contributing to the vision of a greener, eco-friendly future.

Key Green Corridor Projects

  1. Mandi-Jogindernagar-Pathankot and Kiratpur-Manali-Kelang:
These corridors will be developed by Jio-BP.
  2. Parwanoo-Una-Sansarpur Terrace-Nurpur and Parwanoo-Shimla-Recongpeo-Losar:
EVI Technology will handle these routes.
  3. Shimla-Hamirpur-Chamba Corridor:
Electroweb Company will spearhead this project.

Facilities to Be Developed

The projects aim to establish 41 EV charging stations, supermarkets, and way-side amenities, including toilets and restaurants. These facilities will cater to e-buses, e-trucks, and other electric vehicles, encouraging the shift towards eco-friendly transportation.

Commitment to Green Energy

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that these initiatives are pivotal for achieving the state’s goal of becoming a Green Energy State by 2026. The government also plans to phase out traditional buses in favor of electric buses in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet, further supporting the green energy movement.

Support for Electric Vehicles

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted plans to procure 350 e-buses and praised the state’s Transport Department for being the first in the country to operate an entirely electric fleet. The establishment of green corridors is expected to motivate private vehicle owners to transition to electric vehicles.

MoU Signing and Leadership

The MoU was signed by Director of the Transport Department, D.C. Negi, with representatives Rahul Soni of EVI Technology and Avinash Sharma of Jio-BP. Principal Secretary R.D. Nazim and other dignitaries also attended the event.

This development is a testament to the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and fostering a green energy revolution in Himachal Pradesh.
