CM Sukhu announced that 100 schools across Himachal Pradesh will shift to the CBSE curriculum starting the next academic session, as part of the government’s initiative to enhance education quality. Chairing a review meeting with the Education Department, the Chief Minister said this transition will begin in a phased manner, with 100 schools included in the first phase.
He instructed officials to complete all preparations within the stipulated timeframe and said these CBSE-pattern schools will have a distinct identity — including a separate colour scheme and unique uniforms for students. The schools will feature smart classrooms and provide nutritious meals through school mess facilities.
Education Department officials informed the Chief Minister that 86 schools have already met the required CBSE standards, and work is underway to upgrade the remaining ones. CM Sukhu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to quality education and emphasized that there are sufficient funds to develop the necessary infrastructure.
He also noted that due to consistent efforts by the state, Himachal Pradesh has improved its national education ranking — moving from 21st to 5th place — and that special focus is being placed on rural education.
The Chief Minister further reviewed the progress of the Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools and directed that they be developed with well-planned campuses, including sports and recreation facilities, to support all-round student development. He added that state-of-the-art colleges would also be set up in each district to provide quality higher education and holistic learning opportunities.
