Himachal to Adopt Norway-Inspired Model for Green Mountain Development
MLA and Deputy Chief Whip of Himachal Pradesh, Kewal Singh Pathania, announced the state’s plan to adopt Norway’s model of sustainable and inclusive mountain development. Drawing from his recent visit to the Norwegian Parliament, he emphasized aligning global best practices with Himachal’s natural strengths such as its hilly terrain, scenic beauty, and water resources.
Pathania highlighted Norway’s success in decentralized governance, eco-friendly infrastructure, and sectors like tunnel engineering, electric mobility, and waste management. He stressed the need to empower local bodies in Himachal and promote scientific planning and public-private partnerships for faster and sustainable development.
Tourism, he noted, would also shift towards eco-friendly, year-round practices inspired by Norway’s model. The Deputy Chief Whip reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to green growth and people-centric governance to ensure a prosperous future.
Himanshu Gulati, a Norwegian MP of Indian origin, accompanied Pathania during the visit, marking a step toward enhanced cooperation between the two mountainous regions.
