In a major push to revolutionize public education, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved the engagement of 3,100 teachers across various categories for state-run schools transitioning to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum in its second phase. Announcing the decision, an official spokesperson stated that this strategic recruitment drive aims to strengthen teaching faculties, resolve subject-teacher shortages, and deliver high-quality, standardized education across government schools in the state.

Under this initiative, the government has crafted a detailed breakdown to cater to specific learning needs. A specialized sub-scheme will engage 600 professional educators, comprising 360 Mathematics teachers and 240 English teachers. Alongside this, a broader scheme will deploy 2,500 teachers on a fixed honorarium basis across diverse academic streams. This expanded intake includes 240 teachers each for Hindi, Sanskrit, Biology, Commerce, and Physical Education; 220 for Fine Arts; 202 for Economics; 199 each for Political Science and History; 120 each for Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Music; as well as mandatory staffing for key science disciplines.

To maintain strict academic excellence and transparency, the selection process will be conducted through a competitive examination organized by the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog. Selected candidates will receive a consolidated monthly honorarium of ₹30,000. Additionally, in a crucial decision to uphold teaching standards, the state government has made qualifying the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for all newly recruited English and Mathematics teachers.

Reiterating the state’s vision, CM Sukhu emphasized that adopting the CBSE framework is a landmark step toward modernizing state schools and widening horizons for young learners. He highlighted that ongoing educational reforms—focusing on infrastructure upgrades, refined teaching methodologies, and improved learning outcomes—are essential to empower students with the skills required to navigate future global challenges confidently.
