The Himachal Pradesh Government has launched an ambitious statewide initiative to combat drug abuse and promote a healthy, disciplined lifestyle among youth under the leadership of CM Sukhu.
As part of the 2026–27 action plan, the state will roll out the “Khelo Himachal – Chitta Mukt Abhiyan”, aimed at steering young people away from drugs through structured sports engagement. Sports competitions will be held at block, district and state levels with an estimated budget of Rs. 12 crore, featuring games such as volleyball, kabaddi and cricket. Around 50,000 youth aged 15 to 30 years are expected to participate, while a coordinated sports calendar is being prepared by multiple departments including Rural Development, Youth Services & Sports, Police and district administrations.
Alongside preventive measures, the government is focusing on rehabilitation and social reintegration of drug-affected youth. De-addiction and rehabilitation centres are being strengthened across the state. A modern facility is under construction at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur district with an investment of Rs. 20 crore, equipped with library, gymnasium, sports facilities and vocational training. An observation home and special home are also planned nearby with Rs. 2 crore allocation.
The state’s anti-drug drive has evolved into a mass movement, with the Anti-Chitta Walkathon witnessing strong public participation across Himachal Pradesh. To further strengthen enforcement, 1,000 additional constables will be recruited in the Himachal Pradesh Police.
Crackdown efforts against drug networks have also been intensified. Authorities have identified 1,214 individuals linked to illegally acquired properties, with demarcation completed for 950 cases, 12 demolitions and 2 sealings already carried out. In 2025, assets worth Rs. 23.93 crore have been seized.
Strict legal action is being taken against those involved in drug trafficking, including 17 police personnel dismissed from service and cases registered under the NDPS Act against 105 government and other employees.
The government said the combined strategy of prevention, enforcement and rehabilitation is receiving strong public support and is expected to play a decisive role in making Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state and preserving its social fabric.
