Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today announced a series of bold initiatives under the banner of ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’, a systemic transformation aimed at women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and inclusive development.
The Chief Minister highlighted significant improvements in the State’s child sex ratio, which has risen from 947 to 964 over the past three years—a reflection of sustained efforts to protect and value the girl child.
Among the key initiatives, the government has launched the Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojna, which provides financial security for girls born in Below Poverty Line families. The scheme deposits Rs. 25,000 at birth and offers life insurance coverage of Rs. 2 lakh for both parents, maturing when the girl turns 18, or up to age 27. This complements the ongoing ‘Beti Hai Anmol Yojana’ to further support the welfare of girl children.
To bolster opportunities for working women, 13 new hostels will be constructed across districts including Solan, Palampur, Baddi, Gagret, and Nagrota Bagwan, at a total cost of Rs. 132 crore. These facilities aim to provide safe and affordable accommodation for women pursuing education and employment.
In education, all 18,925 Anganwadi Centres are being upgraded to ‘Anganwadi Sah’ preschools, offering play-based learning for children aged 3 to 6 years. Anganwadi workers will receive training to deliver foundational education, ensuring a strong start for every child.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Sukh Aashray Yojna, a landmark program providing comprehensive care for orphaned children and destitute women, covering their upbringing, education, and livelihood.
“These forward-thinking measures showcase our commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare. By prioritizing girls, women, and children, Himachal Pradesh is charting a path toward a stronger, self-reliant, and equitable future,” said CM Sukhu. “This is not just governance—it is Vyavastha Parivartan, a transformation of systems empowering every citizen to stand tall with dignity and independence.”
