In a major push to overhaul public education and bridge the rural-urban learning divide, the Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led state government has resolved to upgrade six public schools into Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools.
The shortlisted institutions comprise:

Designed to deliver holistic learning environments, the Model Day-Boarding framework integrates cutting-edge smart classrooms, dedicated sports complexes, indoor arenas, swimming pools, and balanced meal programs. By blending high-grade infrastructure with accessible schooling, the state intends to build confidence and academic excellence among students in remote areas.
Highlighting the sector’s importance, CM Sukhu noted that government initiatives are yielding clear performance gains. Pointing to past assessments, he observed that while Himachal Pradesh held 21st place in national quality education rankings during a 2021 survey under the former administration, the state has since climbed to 5th position nationwide.
The Chief Minister added that expanding CBSE curricula within public schools has already driven a strong response. Driven by modern facilities and quality instruction at minimal cost, approximately 24,000 students have recently transitioned from private schools back into the government system.
