Balbir Singh, an Athletics coach from Himachal Pradesh’s Sports Department, has made the state proud by winning a gold medal in the 5000 meters and a silver medal in the 1500 meters at the 45th National Masters Athletics Championship. His remarkable performance has also earned him a spot in the upcoming Asian Masters Athletics Championship in Indonesia.

Olympians Steve Perkins and Juan Ordonez presented Balbir Singh with his medals, praising his exceptional performance. The competition, held in Bangalore from March 4-9, 2025, saw over 2000 athletes from across the country. In the 5000-meter race, more than 50 athletes competed, while over 60 participated in the 1500-meter race. Balbir Singh finished in impressive times of 19 minutes 15 seconds and 5 minutes 6 seconds, respectively, leaving behind many strong contenders.

In addition, he recently earned a bronze medal in the 1500-meter race at the All India Civil Services event. Reflecting on his journey, Balbir shared that running is not just a test of physical endurance but also of mental strength. He believes that with rigorous training and dedication, any goal can be achieved. He emphasized the importance of fitness and a proper diet, avoiding outside food and sticking to home-cooked meals.

Despite being 55 years old, Balbir continues to display the same passion for running and sports that led him to win a bronze medal in the All India Inter-University competition during his school and college days.
