The Department of Higher Education organized an interactive session on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) as part of Mission Sadhana Saptah 2026, observed from April 2 to 8. The week coincided with the Foundation Day of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) and marked five years of Mission Karmayogi, India’s flagship initiative for citizen-centric governance.
The welcome address was delivered by Syed Ekram Rizvi, Joint Secretary (Administration), who highlighted the role of the Capacity Building Commission in offering online courses aimed at enhancing knowledge, skills, and capacity for effective governance.
The session fostered peer learning and deliberations on integrating IKS into contemporary education, research, and governance. Dr. Mohan Raghavan, Associate Professor at IIT Hyderabad and former Head of the Department of Heritage Science & Technology, emphasized that IKS is not a standalone discipline but a multidisciplinary framework that can enrich science, engineering, humanities, and management education. He noted that embedding IKS in higher education promotes holistic learning, critical thinking, research, and innovation rooted in India’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
A lively Q&A session followed, underscoring the relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems in building a future-ready, globally competitive, and culturally grounded education system. Senior officials from the Department of Higher Education and thought leaders participated, reaffirming the Department’s commitment to a knowledge-driven and humane governance ecosystem under Mission Karmayogi.
