The NAS-108 Ambulance Service, operated by Medswan Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the National Health Mission (NHM), has reached a remarkable milestone—over 3,060 successful deliveries inside ambulances or at emergency locations since its inception on January 15, 2022.

With an average of one newborn delivered every nine hours, the NAS-108 service has become a lifeline for expectant mothers, particularly in remote and underserved regions where healthcare access is limited. Since its launch, the service has responded to over 4.27 lakh emergencies, including approximately 78,000 pregnancy-related cases, navigating Himachal Pradesh’s challenging mountainous terrain to provide timely medical assistance.

Transforming Maternal and Neonatal Healthcare

The NAS-108 Ambulance Service has played a vital role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates, supporting the state’s broader healthcare goals. Equipped with skilled Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), ambulance pilots, and essential delivery kits, the service ensures safe childbirth even in high-risk situations.

In several instances, complicated pregnancies requiring higher medical intervention resulted in deliveries en route—a feat made possible by the expertise of the NAS-108 team. This seamless integration of pre-hospital obstetric care and institutional healthcare has helped prevent life-threatening complications and strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s emergency healthcare infrastructure.

Revolutionizing Emergency Healthcare in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh’s scattered settlements and challenging geography often hinder access to healthcare. However, NAS-108 has turned this challenge into an opportunity, ensuring 24×7 emergency medical services even in the most remote locations.

This milestone is a testament to the vision of the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the dedication of NHM, and the operational efficiency of Medswan Foundation. Beyond statistics, each delivery represents a story of hope and survival, bringing joy to thousands of families.

Under the continued guidance of the Government of Himachal Pradesh and unwavering support from NHM, Medswan Foundation remains committed to strengthening emergency healthcare services in the state. Citizens are encouraged to dial the toll-free number 108 in any medical emergency to avail of this life-saving service.
