Dr. Daisy Thakur, Chairperson, Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan today. It was a courtesy call.

The Governor inquired about the various activities of the Commission and matters related to women in the state. He stressed on organizing more workshops to make women aware about their rights besides innovation.

“Himachal is a peaceful state but cases related to domestic violence also come to the fore, on which the commission needs to be more sensitive”, said Arlekar.

 He added that the Commission should try to settle the maximum number of cases at its own level so that the matters related to them do not reach the court. He specifically mentioned the marriage counselling service which was more effective in this direction and said that counselling service played a major role. He advised them to engage competent persons for providing consultancy services.

The Governor appreciated the initiative taken by HP Women Commission in protecting the rights and welfare of women and said that the Commission needs to be strengthened more.

On the occasion, Dr. Daisy Thakur apprised the Governor about the working of the Commission.

Members of the Commission Indu Bala and Rattan Manjari Negi were also present on the occasion.
