The Himachal Pradesh government has promised strict action following the assault on an HRTC Volvo bus driver near Ghora Chowki in Shimla, with Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri strongly condemning the incident and describing it as shocking and completely unacceptable.
Agnihotri, who also oversees the Transport Department, said the state is taking the matter with utmost seriousness and assured that those responsible will face stringent consequences. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies have already acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of four accused persons.
Calling the incident a blot on the state’s reputation, the Deputy Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh is known for its peaceful culture and hospitality, and acts of violence like this go against its core values and will not be tolerated.
He also highlighted the critical role of HRTC drivers and conductors, noting that they operate under challenging conditions to ensure transport connectivity even in remote and difficult terrains. Their service, he said, is essential and deserves full respect and protection.
Agnihotri directed police authorities and HRTC officials to conduct a fair and detailed investigation and ensure exemplary punishment, adding that the government remains firmly committed to safeguarding the dignity, safety, and welfare of its transport workforce.
