The Monsoon & Western disturbances rains continue in the North Western Himalayan states of India for last four months and more severe currently forced the Hydro Met Division of Indian Meteorological Department to sound alert of Flash Flood Risk and Surface Runoff and Inundation at many fully saturated watersheds and low lying areas due to expected persistent rain in next 24 hrs.
The Flash Flood National Flashflood guidelines bulletin for state of Himachal Pradesh indicating FFR outlook till 1000hrs on August 24, 2023 give two warning to Himachal Pradesh along with some parts of Uttarakhand and most part of Punjab.
The alert says ” Moderate to high flash flood risk over few watersheds and neighborhood of Shimla, Sirmour, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan , Bilaspur and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh . The alert also said Surface ran off or inundation may occur at some fully saturated watershed and low lying areas due to expected persistent rainfall in next 24 hrs.
Situation of severe rain disasters and saturation of water in the land or soil is so precarious that air, rail and land transport are virtually paralysed in the hills state. Keeping red alert in the mind Shimla capital Region and district closed down all educational institutions from Aganwari to University for two days.
Report arrived from the state disaster management authority said National Highway 21 from Chandigarh to Kirthpur is disrupted after two pillars of the Main Baddi Bridge in the industrial area BBN crippled vehicular traffic forcing the administration to divert traffic on the alternate route.
The old Hindustan Tibet National highway from Ambala to Korick of Kinnuar district disrupted at Chaki Mod since Wednesday morning , Shimla Bypass road and Shimla -Chhota Shimla are also disrupted for vehicular traffic. NH-3 between Mandi and Manali disrupted for long time after washing down of four lanes.
The SDMA said including Four NH and 530 major roads , beside this power and water supply is also disrupted in the 2897 distribution Transformer Region and 314 water supply scheme. 213 road including NH 3 & 154 are affected in Mandi 134 in Solan district, 58 in Shimla, 50 in Bilaspur 33 in Hamirpur, 24 in Kulu. In Mandi district 1142 DTR are down 598 DTR in Shimla, 376 in Hamirpur 158 DTR in Sirmaur and 124 in Kulu respectively.
During the ongoing monsoon season from June 24 to August 22 state recorded 131 landslides and 60 flashflood incidents which took as many as 227 lives and 121 others died in rain related road mishaps.
During the entire rainy seasons so far 348 people lost their lives and 336 people got injured. 2220 houses, 300 shops and 4695 cow sheds fully damaged and 9819 houses are partially damaged by the rain. State registered total monetary loss of tunes to Rs 8100 Crore so far. 97 bridges damaged and 19 are completely washed by the rain. Water level of all the 23 major Dams in the state are reported normal till Tuesday and water of nine dams are being released to keep it below the danger mark.
