The state level 73rd Wildlife Week was inaugurated on Wednesday with a special program organized at Potter Hill in Shimla. Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh attended this program as the chief guest. The theme of this program was Human Wildlife Co-existence.Addressing the program, the chief guest congratulatedp everyone on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and said that today’s young generation should follow their footsteps and achieve their goals.



He said that the Father of the Nation always had a strong commitment towards village industry. He is known as a guide. He had said that the real India resides in the villages. In such a situation, if there is development in the villages, then the entire real India will develop. Rural development is happening through panchayats. Now in the Panchayati Raj system Participation of women is also increasing.
He said that the combined form of Wild Life Week and Cleanliness Campaign should move forward as a mass movement. He said that campaigns should not be limited to programs, but the role of every citizen should be included in them. It should definitely happen as a mass movement. He said that humans have started interfering in the areas of wildlife. Every day, wildlife is increasing its activity in the residential areas around us. In such a situation, humans are trying to harm wildlife for their own safety. , whereas conservation of wild animals is necessary.
Wild animals also have the right to live just like a common man. We all should take a pledge that we will play our part in the conservation of wild animals. He said that forests are the biggest asset of Himachal. There is a need to launch a big mass movement to save them and keep them green. We should work by making each other aware to protect the forests around us.
He said that we have to be active every moment regarding our cleanliness. This cleanliness campaign is not only a task of cleaning our human settlements, but it is also a message that we should also keep our forests and natural habitats of wildlife clean and safe. We all have to understand that a clean environment is the basis for healthy wildlife and rich biodiversity.Eco tourism will develop in Potter HillThe chief guest said that Potter Hill will be developed for eco-tourism.
For this, the state government has recently approved 5 hectares of land here. A proposal has been prepared to develop walking trails, mountain cycling trails etc. here. It has been done. At the same time, a gazebo, new benches to sit and a walking trail are to be built at Chedwick Falls. The estimated cost of these will be around Rs 50 lakh with the help of Asian Development Bank. This work will be implemented within the next two months. Will be given.
PCCF Wildlife Amitabh Gautam said that there will be many programs during this week. These include releasing birds in their habitat, organizing a session of in-depth discussions on wildlife by experts in Potter Hills Conservation Reserve, bicycle rally in Shimla Water Catchment Dhali Organizing a mini-marathon from Ridge Maidan to Summerhill and organizing a seminar on human-wildlife co-existence at the Forest Headquarters Shimla.
Apart from this, wildlife photography, documentary films, painting, wildlife group singing will be organized for forest workers and others. Competitions are also being organized. Painting, quiz, trekking etc. competitions are being organized in schools across the state. He said that cleanliness and wildlife conservation are deeply connected to each other.
Pollution and dirt should not be removed. Plastic waste not only affects our society and health, but also endangers the natural habitats of wildlife. Plastic waste, chemicals, and other pollutants reach forests, rivers, and oceans and put wildlife lives at risk.
On the occasion of this Wildlife Week, we will take a step towards cleanliness and wildlife conservation by running a cleanliness campaign today. We have to ensure that our forest areas, rivers, and natural resources are free from pollution, so that our wildlife heritage can remain safe. On this occasion, the chief guest administered an oath to the people on behalf of the State AIDS Control Committee regarding HIV free Himachal.The chief guest also flagged off the cleanliness drive of the wildlife department. Students of Healing Himalaya Sanstha, Eco Club of RKMV College and local people were specially present in this cleanliness drive.
Jujurana adopted the chief guest has adopted the state bird Jujurana for one year under the adoption program being run by the Wildlife Department. For this, the chief guest has also decided to donate an amount of Rs 13 thousand from his income annually for its expenses. He appealed to the people of the state to adopt the wild animals kept in zoos and take care of them for a year.
