Aligned with the Government of India and inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a cleaner India, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) proudly initiated its Swachhta Abhiyan today. This campaign, reflecting the nation’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat initiative, saw enthusiastic participation from staff and fellows, driven by a collective spirit of community responsibility. Under the guidance of Secretary Mehar Chand Negi, the campaign embodies our dedication to the Prime Minister’s goals and the broader government objectives towards a Swachh Bharat.

Secretary Negi emphasized, “This initiative affirms our commitment to the visionary policies of our national leadership.” The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Meenu Aggarwal, RMO, along with the Store & Supply Section, focused on ensuring cleanliness around the Fellows’ House and IC4HD Guest House. The day began with intensive cleanliness activities, notably around the library section, meticulously managed by Prem Chand. Efforts here focused on beautifying the Square Hall road and areas adjacent to the Main Road, enhancing both aesthetics and utility.

Additional activities included comprehensive cleanup operations at Square Hall, where the library’s outer regions and nearby badminton court were significantly tidied. The Sales & PR Section, under the efficient coordination of Akhilesh Pathak, PRO, ensured smooth execution of tasks, particularly around the Main gate of IIAS. Further, the gardens near the Military Barracks and Courteen Hall received special attention for maintenance and beautification, overseen by Abhishek Dalvi, Section Officer (Horticulture).

The Swachhta Abhiyan is not merely about maintaining cleanliness but fostering a deep-seated responsibility among the community members towards their environment. The Institute is motivated to continue this momentum with more activities planned in the upcoming days, each reinforcing our pledge to a sustainable and clean environment. This successful launch sets a high benchmark and promises a series of impactful actions in line with the Government of India’s vision for a sustainable and clean campus.
