Inter-house ‘Folk Dance’ competition was organized in the auditorium of St. Thomas’ School, Shimla, on 14th August 2024, on the occasion of 78th Independence Day of India. Students from all the four houses of the school, Chinar, Shipkila, Kasturi and Toshqui House participated. Students from class IX to XII participated in this competition.
In the inter-house ‘Folk Dance’ competition, Poonam Sharma, well-known classical dancer, Rachita Rathore and Vikram, Pinegrove dance teacher participated as judges.
In this folk dance competition, the students depicted the diverse cultural heritage of India. The event aimed to promote and preserve traditional folk dances from all states. Firstly, Shipkila House showcased the art and culture of Western India which included Ghoomar, puppet dance, Kalbelia etc. of Rajasthan. Secondly , Kasturi House showed the culture of South India and Tamil folk dance which included Thappattam & Parai Attam, Oyilattam, Yakshagana etc.
The Third House Chinar depicted the folk dance of various states of North India which included Punjabi and Himachali Gidda, folk dance of Kashmir, Ludi dance of Mandi, Uttarakhand dance .
The Fourth House Toshqui won the praise of everyone by performing the folk dances like Bihu, Manipuri Cheraw of Eastern India.
The result of the competition is first place Kasturi House and second place Toshqui House. The competition was a vibrant ceebration of India’s diverse cultural heritage. The program ended with the blessings of the Principal and the judges to all the children.
