Agriculture Minister Prof. Chander Kumar and Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi in a joint statement issued here today said that the Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur’s approach is still limited to his assembly constituency Seraj only. The Ministers said that while he was the Chief Minister of the State, Jai Ram Thakur ensured the development of only Seraj Assembly Segment and ignored other parts of the State even Mandi district and today also despite getting the important responsibility of Leader of the Opposition, he is only raising the issues of Seraj area.
The Ministers urged Jai Ram Thakur to broaden his perspective and prioritize the interests of the entire State as the Leader of the Opposition. The duo said that Jai Ram Thakur had not paid any attention towards filling up the vacant posts of teachers in the Education department and various posts in other departments during his regime due to which there was a shortage of employees in the State. They said that the present State Government under the able leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was making earnest efforts to fill up the vacant posts at the earliest.
They said that in the cabinet meeting held yesterday, approval was given to fill up about 5300 posts of teachers in the Elementary Education Department and the present state government was also taking steps to remove the shortage of staff in other departments as well. Once the recruitment process is completed, the problem of shortage of staff in government institutions will be addressed to a great extent, they added. Chander Kumar and Jagat Singh Negi said that the previous Jai Ram government had drowned Himachal Pradesh in the quagmire of debt.
In the assembly elections of 2017, the BJP had promised the people of the State that after coming into power, the loan culture will be abolished. But on the contrary, after coming to power they resorted to borrowing maximum loans and did not take any measures for resource mobilization. It is also a fact that Himachal Pradesh did not receive any additional financial assistance from the Union government during the tenure of the previous BJP government which they claimed to be a Double Engine government. They said that despite the poor financial condition of the state, the present state government would not allow any shortcomings in undertaking the uniform development of the State.
The Ministers said that in the recent Shimla Municipal Corporation elections, the voters have given a landslide victory in favour of the Congress party and have endorsed the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the policies and programs of the present state government. This triumph is particularly noteworthy because Shimla is the capital of the State where people from all corners live. Jai Ram Thakur must have the courage to accept the mandate given by the voters of Shimla Municipal Corporation but he is being disrespectful to the people of Shimla by terming it as an un-organic mandate, they added.
