Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Pledges Reforms to Revitalize HRTC

In a recent meeting, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the need for reforms in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to address financial losses and ensure timely payments to employees and pensioners.

Transitioning to Electric Buses for a Greener Future

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted HRTC’s phased transition from diesel buses to electric buses (e-buses). The current fleet includes 95 electric buses, and the government plans to increase this number in the near future.

Procurement of Type-1 and Type-2 E-Buses

The State Government has already issued tenders for the purchase of 75 Type-1 e-buses, with the letter of award (LOA) expected to be issued next month. Additionally, plans are underway to replace 225 diesel buses with Type-2 e-buses on identified routes.

Himachal Pradesh’s Commitment to Green Energy

The state government aims to transform Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state by March 31, 2026. The focus on e-vehicles is part of the government’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and establish six green corridors.

Construction of Bus Port and E-Bus Depot

During the meeting, the construction of a proposed bus port in Hamirpur was reviewed. The Chief Minister announced that it would be constructed by the Himachal Pradesh Bus Stand Management and Development Authority (HPBSMDA) within the next two years. Additionally, land has been identified for an e-bus depot in Nadaun, Hamirpur district.

Agriculture Minister Professor Chander Kumar, MLA Rajesh Dharmani, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Bharat Khera, Principal Secretary Transport R.D. Nazeem, Principal Secretary Finance Maneesh Garg, Managing Director HRTC Sandeep Kumar, and other senior officers were present during the meeting.
