Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday asserted that the collection of land revenue from hydropower project developers is a legitimate right of the state and emphasized that the people of Himachal Pradesh must benefit from the state’s natural resources.

Chairing a meeting with developers of various hydropower projects in the state, the Chief Minister held detailed discussions on the assessment and payment of land revenue. He said Himachal Pradesh is richly endowed with natural resources, and it is the responsibility of hydropower developers operating in the state to comply with existing regulations and ensure the timely payment of land revenue.

CM Sukhu made it clear that all operational hydropower projects must adhere to the prescribed norms. However, he added that discussions could be held to rationalize land revenue rates, ensuring a balanced and fair approach for both the state and developers.

During the meeting, it was informed that a separate discussion on hydropower projects with a capacity of 25 MW would be held on January 12 in Shimla, under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is committed to the optimal utilization of Himachal Pradesh’s resources for the welfare and development of its people. He assured hydropower developers that the government would also work towards providing effective solutions to the challenges faced by them.

Highlighting the government’s broader vision, CM Sukhu said several key decisions have been taken to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and among the most prosperous states in the country. He noted that the state has firmly asserted its rights with the Centre and neighbouring states, including demanding permanent membership in BBMB projects and seeking the early release of around ₹6,500 crore as arrears due for the period from 1966 to 2011.

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi shared his insights during the meeting, while representatives of various hydropower stakeholders also presented their views before the Chief Minister.
