Governor Kavinder Gupta on Sunday released the Dogri–Punjabi Dictionary authored by Late Chandan Negi during a programme jointly organised by the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha and the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at KL Sehgal Hall in Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor described literature as a powerful medium capable of guiding society and bringing about positive social transformation. He said literary creations reflect deep thinking, patience and human sensitivity.
Highlighting India’s rich linguistic diversity, Gupta said languages are not merely tools of communication but also carriers of culture, traditions and history. He praised Punjabi literature for promoting values such as love, brotherhood, courage and humanity.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the organisers in preserving literature and cultural heritage and stressed the need to connect younger generations with their linguistic roots and traditional values. He said protecting the country’s cultural heritage is vital for strengthening national identity and fostering social unity.
Referring to the increasing influence of technology, Gupta said books continue to hold immense relevance even in the digital era. He remarked that reading helps develop knowledge, sensitivity, critical thinking and moral values, while encouraging youth to engage more actively with literature and cultural activities.
The Governor further stated that literature serves as a true reflection of society and plays a significant role in inspiring positive change. He also congratulated the family members of Late Chandan Negi and conveyed his best wishes to the organisers of the event.
