The state-of-the-art Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Mandi district. Connecting Pandoh to Mata Baglamukhi Temple in Bakhli, the 800-meter-long ropeway is set to revolutionize tourism in the region.
Constructed at a cost of ₹53.89 crore, the ropeway adheres to European CEN standards. With a line speed of 6 meters per second (21.6 km/hr), it offers a scenic and efficient alternative for up to 600 passengers per hour, bypassing 14 kilometers of road travel.
Unique Features: Over Pandoh Dam Reservoir
The Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway is the only one in Himachal Pradesh operating over a water body, the Pandoh Dam reservoir. The gondola ride provides breathtaking views of the serene waters and majestic hills, making it a unique and exciting experience for tourists and pilgrims.
Enhanced Tourism and Economic Opportunities
The project is expected to increase footfall at the sacred Mata Baglamukhi Temple while promoting visits to the nearby nature park developed by the Forest Department. Tourists heading to Kullu-Manali, Kasol, and Lahaul-Spiti are anticipated to explore this dual attraction, boosting local tourism and creating economic opportunities for the region.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the ropeway aligns with the government’s vision of sustainable tourism by reducing travel time and fostering infrastructure growth without compromising the region’s natural beauty.
