The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GATI Foundation, a project under the SFI Impact Foundation, to strengthen mechanisms supporting overseas employment and global mobility of skilled Indian workers.
The agreement aims to create a strategic framework to help Indian youth access international job opportunities in a structured and sustainable manner, while positioning India as a global hub for skilled talent.
Under the partnership, both organisations will develop a data-driven roadmap for overseas skilling and mobility. The initiative will identify high-demand international job roles, priority destination countries, and sectoral opportunities for Indian professionals.
Speaking on the occasion, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of MSDE, said the collaboration would help equip India’s workforce with internationally recognised skills, language capabilities, and cultural readiness, enabling them to compete confidently in global labour markets.
Arnab Bhattacharya, CEO of GATI Foundation, said the partnership would help create a unified national approach for global skills mobility by improving coordination between the Centre and states and strengthening the overall skilling ecosystem.
As part of the agreement, the GATI Foundation will establish a Project Management Unit (PMU) at Kaushal Bhawan to provide technical and strategic support to the Ministry. The unit will assist with research, monitoring systems, international partnerships, and initiatives aimed at preparing a mobility-ready workforce.
The collaboration will also support the expansion of Skill India International Centres, strengthen partnerships with institutions such as ITIs and polytechnics, and facilitate engagement with global employers to improve overseas placement opportunities.
MSDE will coordinate with key ministries including the Ministry of External Affairs, India and Ministry of Labour and Employment, India to align policies related to overseas employment. Training in foreign languages, cultural orientation, and documentation processes will also be supported to prepare candidates for international placements.
The MoU will remain valid for three years and will operate on a collaborative basis without financial transactions between the two organisations. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, focusing on strengthening skilled human capital to drive economic growth and global opportunities for Indian youth.
