StThomas29.9.15After a long time an annual day was given a new meaning by the students and staff of St. Thomas’ School during the celebration of Senior Section Annual Day held at the historic Gaiety Theater, Shimla, here today. A musical treat awaited all the parents and guests who thoroughly enjoyed the evenings programme. The event started with welcoming of the chief guest Pratibha Singh, Ex-Parliamentarian and Chairperson, Red Cross Society, HP, by the School Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty and her students in a grand style.

Thereafter the School Principal read the annual report highlighting the various achievements of the students through the academic year 2015-16. She informed that in coming years they plan to introduce skill development courses like embroidery and stitching for students from Class VIII onwards. She also informed that currently at school level St. Thomas’ is the only school in city that is offering courses like Mass Media and Journalism at school level.

The evening began with the school choir Himrus singing few beautiful Himachali compositions and entertained the guests present on the occasion. After it came a time to showcase acting skills by the students as they all took stage and enacted a play Jadoo Ki Kaleen depicting the sad state of young children who are sold off by parents due to their financial conditions. Sometimes they are sold for working, and at times girls are traded in marriage for a meager amount of money. The play ended on a contemplating note when will we save our children from getting exploited and will they ever be saved?

A dance performance Atulya Bharat – came as a fresh breeze for all after a serious theme based performance as the whole stage became vibrant with colours. Students exhibited excellent dancing skills and left everyone mesmerized.

Speaking on the occasion Singh said that she was feeling extremely happy for being a part of this cultural show. She had seem many schools functions but however St. Thomas’ was one of the school that she was always looking forward to become part of and share joy with students. She congratulated them on their brilliant performances and lauded the efforts of the school management and the faculty for putting up a great show.
