Taking a significant step to strengthen the rural economy, the Himachal Pradesh Government will establish an Integrated Aqua Park at Nadaun in District Hamirpur with an estimated investment of ₹25 crore. The project aims to transform the fisheries sector into a profitable, sustainable, and technology-driven enterprise, while creating new opportunities for employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship in the region.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the park has been prepared by ICAR–Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar, and suitable land has already been identified for the project. Once operational, the Aqua Park will serve as a centre for innovation and training, enabling the dissemination of modern freshwater aquaculture technologies to farmers and youth at the grassroots level.
The proposed park will focus on the production of superior-quality fish seed including Indian Major Carps (Rohu – Jayanti Rohu, Catla – Amrit Catla, Mrigal), Exotic Carps (Hungarian and Amur strains), Minor Carps (Kulwans), Catfishes (Pangasius, Murrels), and Ornamental Fishes (Goldfish, Koi Carp, Guppy, Molly). By ensuring access to high-quality fish feed and modern rearing techniques, it will help enhance fish productivity and profitability for local farmers.
Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Aqua Park will feature a modern hatchery for carps and catfishes, nursery and rearing units, broodstock raising facilities, and advanced aquaculture systems such as Biofloc and Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS). Additional components will include a feed mill, ornamental fish rearing units, a public aquarium, an aqua shop with marketing and incubation facilities, an administrative-cum-laboratory and training complex, a quarantine and wet laboratory, and an effluent treatment plant.
CM Sukhu stated that strengthening the rural economy remains a key priority for the State Government. He emphasized that the fisheries sector can play a crucial role in enhancing farmers’ income, and directed the concerned department to adopt and promote modern aquaculture practices to ensure that farmers receive remunerative returns for their efforts.
The establishment of the Integrated Aqua Park at Nadaun marks a forward-looking initiative that aligns with the State Government’s vision of sustainable rural development, youth empowerment, and agricultural diversification through modern technology and innovation.
