Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh expressed concern over delays in financial assistance from the Union Government, despite BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda being in a key position to support the state. In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministers said that while they are proud to see Nadda at the helm, it is concerning that Himachal Pradesh’s interests are not being vigorously pursued with the Centre.

The ministers pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a relief and rehabilitation package of Rs 1,500 crore for disaster-hit families, but the state has yet to receive the funds. They also highlighted that Rs 9,200 crore under the National Pension Scheme (NPS) has been withheld by the Union Government.

According to the ministers, the state’s borrowing limit was reduced by Rs 1,600 crore following the implementation of the OPS, resulting in a total loss of Rs 4,800 crore over the past three years. They emphasized that while the Centre has extended some support, Nadda, being from Himachal Pradesh, should recognize the growing debt burden caused by withheld state shares.

The duo blamed the Centre for Himachal’s financial difficulties, citing a sharp reduction in the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and the lowering of the state’s loan limit, which fell from Rs 10,949 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 3,257 crore in 2025-26. They also noted that the majority of the state’s borrowings are being used to repay interest.

The ministers referred to a Central assessment of the state’s 2023 monsoon losses at around Rs 9,000–9,500 crore. Himachal Pradesh had submitted a claim of Rs 9,042 crore under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) framework for recovery and reconstruction, but the full amount is still pending. Additionally, the state awaits the Rs 1,500 crore relief package announced earlier.

They added that the Himachal government had already provided Rs 4,500 crore from its own resources to support disaster-affected families without awaiting special assistance from the Centre.

Negi and Anirudh Singh urged Nadda to intervene and ensure that Himachal Pradesh receives the pending funds and support, stressing that the state expects more from the Centre due to Nadda’s personal connection with the region.
