Shimla Nursing College, Shurala, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and great enthusiasm under the national theme “Naya Bharat”, symbolizing the spirit of a progressive and self-reliant India. The celebrations aimed to honor the nation’s journey since independence and inspire the younger generation to contribute actively toward nation-building.
The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, led by Mohit Sood (Managing Director), Dr. Kimi Sood (Secretary), and Dr. Krishna Chauhan (Principal), along with all faculty members. This was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony and a pledge, reaffirming dedication to the values of unity, integrity, and freedom.
A major highlight of the day was the investiture ceremony for the newly formed student houses — Nehru House (Green), Ashoka House (Yellow), Vivekananda House (Red), and Kalam House (Blue). Leadership roles were assigned with Anchal Thakur taking the oath as Head Girl and Anushika as Vice-Head Girl of the B.Sc Nursing program.
The celebration continued with a variety of cultural performances by the students, including patriotic songs, folk dances, role plays, skits, and a poster-making competition. The performances reflected the theme of a vibrant and emerging India. The auditorium echoed with patriotic energy, showcasing the students’ creativity and deep respect for the nation.

During their address, Mohit Sood and Dr. Kimi Sood congratulated all the students and faculty members on the occasion of Independence Day. They expressed gratitude towards the armed forces and all citizens dedicated to the nation’s service. They emphasized the importance of youth participation in realizing the dream of a “Naya Bharat” — a nation that is modern, inclusive, and globally respected.
Established in 2009, Shimla Nursing College currently offers four nursing programs — M.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Nursing, GNM, and Post Basic B.Sc Nursing — with over 300 enrolled students. The college is well known for its 100% job placement support, with successful placements in premier hospitals across India such as Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, BLK Hospital, Max, Yashoda, Artemis, Columbia Asia, and many more. The institution also facilitates global placement opportunities for its students.
The celebration concluded with the National Anthem and a formal Vote of Thanks, leaving a lasting impression of patriotism and purpose among all attendees.
