A stamp designing competition for Children, wherein they can win cash prizes.
A great opportunity for the students of the city to come close to the art of letter writing and learn different aspects of stamps and working of a post office as Philately Bureau Shimla GPO announces a summer camp to engage Children in an activity which would sharpen their skills and knowledge about Philately and introduce them to the world of stamps and its nuances so that they can burgeon into stamp collector/ an amateur philatelist.
The camp is mainly intended for the benefit of school children. The duration of the camp will be of 2 day, that is 8th and 9th June, and the session will start at 10.00 am and conclude at 4.00pm. Parents would have to make their own arrangements for picking and dropping off their wards.
On the first day of the camp the children will be provided with inputs on Philately, the king of hobbies. A session on philately initiative of Indian Post – a) Stamp Design Competition; b) Dhai Akhar Writing competition; and c) Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana, will be held.
On the second day of the camp there will be a stamp design competition. The theme of the said contest will be on ‘BIRD’. Three entries are being invited from each school, as thereafter best three designs will win a cash award.
Interested children are requested to send an application to the Incharge Philately Bureau Shimla, GPO, 171001, for the stamp design competition. The entries should be received by the office, on or before 06-06-2019. The venue of this workshop will be Shimla GPO, Mall Road.

At the end of the camp the children will have learnt the following:
- Basic feature of postage stamps, their history, types and themes, etc.
- New initiatives started for students by the Postal Department.
- Prepare stamp books, exhibits and preservation techniques, understand basic post office functions, including letter box collection, processing and delivery, as well as improving one’s letter writing skills.
