Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today launched a prepaid taxi service from ISBT Tutikandi, aimed at ensuring transparency, safety, and convenience for passengers in the state.

Under this service, passengers will book taxis at the prepaid counter in ISBT Tutikandi and make payment in advance. They will receive a payment slip, which must be shown to the taxi driver. The driver will drop the passenger at the designated destination and return the slip to the counter to receive payment for the journey.

The prepaid system will eliminate disputes over fares and guarantee a hassle-free travel experience. The service will cover 26 locations within Shimla city along with two additional destinations: Chandigarh International Airport and Chandigarh city. A total of 115 taxis, operated by the Taxi Union, will be part of this initiative.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said, This initiative will ensure transparency as fare rates are fixed by the Transport Department. It will also enhance passenger safety and provide benefits to both tourists and local residents.”

The prepaid taxi service is expected to modernize urban transport in Shimla, improve passenger confidence, and promote organized taxi operations in the city.
