Introducing new concepts and ideas in young minds at the beginning of their lives is an important aspect, which is now seriously taken up by schools now for grooming children. One such event, ‘the Rainy Day’ was organized by the management and teachers of St. Thomas Sr. Sec. School DCM, Jaipur. Children were seen very excited as they had brought different items related to a rainy day.
Some had brought colourful raincoats and new umbrellas. Though it was not raining still they were brought out in the open and to give them a feel of rain water, sprinklers were made use of to give the effect of rain. Very excited and joyful, tiny tots were seen playing and enjoying themselves thoroughly.
They recited different rhymes based on rain — ‘rain rain rain go away’, ‘I hear thunder’ and many more. They especially brought seasonal snacks in tiffin that are enjoyed during rains such as pakoras, paneer cutlets, kachoris, mirchi vada, sweet pan cakes vermicelli among others.
Class I was taught and explained about the water cycle in a play way method. They even made a rainy day mobile. Nursery Class made a cloud and rainbow by pasting cotton wool and seven colour ribbons on a paper plate. LKG Class made a collage by pasting cotton on a cloud cutout and water drops falling from it with blue glitter paper. UKG Class made umbrellas with paper plates as they pasted ice cream stick as handles as they did thumb painting.
Headmistress Nivedita Doegar said that it is important to nurture these young minds at the right age. Concepts learnt in a play way method leave a lasting impression and children learn quickly as well. They are always eager to learn about new things. The little ones enjoyed their time out and learned a new thing about nature.
