Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, sharply criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for conducting rallies in Delhi instead of addressing its commitments to the state. In a statement from Shimla, he accused the Chief Minister and Congress leaders of misleading the people with false promises and taking credit for a mandate they allegedly “stole.”
Jairam Thakur said that while the state faces multiple challenges, including disaster management and relief work, the government is focused on nationwide campaigns against alleged voter disenfranchisement. “Instead of giving an account of their false guarantees, the Chief Minister and senior leaders are travelling across the country, opening their box of lies and misleading the public,” he said. According to him, these rallies only expose the Congress leadership’s failure and disregard for governance.
Thakur alleged that the Congress government’s top leaders routinely ignore constitutional responsibilities and undermine public institutions, including the Election Commission and the central government. He described their campaigns as an insult to informed voters and demanded that all Congress workers apologize to the people of Himachal Pradesh for allegedly misleading them with false assurances.
Highlighting the government’s inaction during crises, Thakur noted that even during legislative discussions on disasters, the Chief Minister chose to participate in election campaigns instead of overseeing relief operations. He accused the government of prioritizing preparations for future electoral losses over addressing pressing state issues.
Thakur also commented on the internal dysfunction of the Congress-led administration, stating that the influence of ministers, MLAs, officials, and personal networks has left the state’s governance on its knees. He criticized celebrations held on the completion of three years of the Sukhu government, calling them a display of insensitivity toward disaster-affected areas.
Jairam Thakur further claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strong public support and the ongoing nationwide setbacks of Congress reflect the party’s waning influence in the state. He warned that such politically motivated campaigns aim to distract the public from government failures and undermine democratic processes.
Concluding his statement, Thakur questioned the Chief Minister’s “Voter Rights Journey,” asking how a government that allegedly took power through false guarantees could now preach about voter rights, while ignoring the state’s demand for accountability.
Separately, Thakur welcomed the sacred arrival of Chhatradhari Chalda Mahasu Maharaj in Pashmi village, Sirmaur district, calling it a symbol of divine blessing, cultural heritage, and prosperity for the people of Himachal Pradesh. He prayed for protection of the state from natural disasters and for peace, prosperity, and harmony across the region.
