In a major reform-driven initiative aimed at strengthening social security, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday announced that the present State Government has cleared 980 long-pending compassionate appointment cases, providing timely relief and dignity to the families of deceased government employees.
The Chief Minister said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to “Vyavastha Parivartan” and ensuring that bereaved families are not left to struggle due to procedural delays. These appointments were processed during a special relaxation period from October 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, covering both Class-III Junior Office Assistant (IT) and Class-IV Multi-Task Worker (MTW) posts.
Out of the total appointments, 366 beneficiaries were appointed to Class-III posts, while 614 were given Class-IV positions across various government departments. The Jal Shakti Vibhag accounted for the highest number of appointments, with 419 cases cleared, including 100 JOAs (IT) and 319 MTWs, offering long-awaited relief to affected families.
The Public Works Department followed with 175 appointments—15 JOAs (IT) and 160 MTWs—while the Education Department cleared 128 cases, appointing 108 JOAs (IT) and 20 Class-IV employees. The Chief Minister said priority was given to departments with the largest backlog to ensure that no eligible family remains deprived of support.
Providing a detailed departmental breakup, the Chief Minister informed that 75 appointments were made in the Home Department, including 52 in Police and 23 in Home Guards. The Health and Family Welfare Department saw 34 appointments, while 14 were made in the Ayush Department. The Animal Husbandry Department accounted for 56 appointments, including 11 JOAs and 45 Class-IV posts.
Other departments included Agriculture (9 MTWs), Horticulture (5), Prisons (4), Fire Services (23), Rural Development (6), Revenue (14), Social Justice and Empowerment (4), Urban Development (20), HPTDC (13), Tribal Development (1), Prosecution (1), and Himachal Road Transport Corporation (2).
Taking a sharp dig at the previous BJP government, the Chief Minister said years of neglect had left eligible families waiting endlessly for justice and social security. He described the delay as a serious governance failure and reiterated that his administration is committed to correcting these wrongs.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister said the initiative is not merely an administrative achievement but a moral responsibility to restore the self-esteem of families who lost their breadwinners while serving the state. He reaffirmed that the present government stands firmly with the common people in times of grief and hardship.
