The Red Cross Society Mandi provided financial assistance to six children left orphaned during the second wave of Covid-19. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla provided the cheques to these children in a programme organised by the district Red Cross Society at Mandi today. Cheques of Rs. 51,000 each were presented to Kushal Kumar and Vishal of Sarkaghat and Ansh Deep from Joginder Nagar and Rs. 75,000 each to Kumari Mamta Devi of Karsog, Pari Rani and Sophia of Joginder Nagar.

He also provided health kits to sanitation workers and wheelchairs to physically challenged persons through the Red Cross Society. The Governor also flagged off an ambulance on the occasion. While interacting with the beneficiaries and Red Cross volunteers on the occasion, the Governor said that it was an organization that is associated with social service and provide important services to people in emergent situations. He expressed contentment that various activities including organizing blood donation camps, health camps and disaster management were being executed through the Red Cross which in sense is a true service to mankind.

He said that Red Cross volunteers have made an important contribution even during the Covid era. He appealed to the District Red Cross Society to associate more people with the organization so that its activities could be further expanded. He said that students of NCC and NSS should also be associated with it. Secretary District Red Cross Society, O.P. Bhatia welcomed the Governor and briefed about the various activities of the district Red Cross Society being implemented in the district. Earlier, the Governor planted saplings of Deodar in the premises of Circuit House Mandi. Lady Governor Janaki Shukla also planted Amla sapling. MLA, Mandi Sadar, Anil Sharma and MLA Drang, Puran Chand Thakur, Deputy Commissioner, Arindam Chowdhary, officers from district administration, and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
