Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi while presiding over the review meeting of damage caused due to incessant rains in the state here today directed all the Deputy Commissioners to take relief and rescue work on priority basis and to assess the damage caused to the crops due to unseasonal rains.

Jagat Singh Negi directed National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force to take prompt action in times of disaster. He took information about relief and rescue operations from the concerned officials during the meeting. He also directed to train 8 to 10 volunteers in disaster management at every panchayat and village level in the state and provide necessary equipment for relief and rescue operations so that relief and rescue work can be started immediately at the time of any disaster. He also directed to utilize Home Guard training Institutes located in the districts for disaster management training.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary Revenue, Onkar Chand Sharma apprised the Revenue Minister about the provisions of the Disaster Management Act and various schemes being implemented by the Revenue-Disaster Department. He informed that the department is training masons for the construction of earthquake-resistant buildings. Apart from this, retrofitting of hospitals, schools and other important buildings is also being done so that potential damage can be mitigated at the time of earthquake. Special Secretary Revenue-Disaster Management D.C. Rana and other senior officers of the Revenue-Disaster Management Department were also present during the meeting.
