The hill capital is gearing up for a high-security phase as elaborate arrangements are being rolled out ahead of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit, beginning April 27, as part of her tour of Himachal Pradesh.

In preparation, the Himachal Pradesh Police has intensified its security framework, holding a detailed briefing on Saturday for personnel stationed across Shimla. The focus remained firmly on vigilance, coordination and error-free execution.

Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari called for uncompromising professionalism, stressing that even the smallest lapse could have serious implications during a visit of this stature. He urged officers to adopt a “zero-error” mindset and remain constantly alert.

Senior officials, including the district police chief and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southern Range), outlined a comprehensive operational plan. They highlighted the importance of seamless teamwork and real-time communication between field units to ensure smooth security management.

Describing the visit as a moment of pride, officers said it offers a platform for the state police to demonstrate its operational readiness on a national stage. Personnel have been instructed not only to follow strict security protocols but also to maintain a courteous and approachable demeanor with the public.

Officials further emphasised preparedness for any contingency, with public safety remaining the top priority. Authorities indicated that the performance of deployed personnel will be under close observation throughout the visit.

At the ground level, officers have been directed to fully understand their roles, plan in advance and stay equipped to respond swiftly to any situation.

The police force has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the President’s visit proceeds without disruption, marked by tight security and efficient coordination.

Sources said the President is likely to stay in Shimla during the first leg of her visit, which runs until May 2. Her itinerary also includes visits to Kangra and Lahaul-Spiti.
