Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma performed Bhumi Pujan ceremony of 50 MW Solar Project being developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN in Sonitpur, Assam today. On this occasion, Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Assam, Pallab Lochan Das, MP, Tezpur, Ganesh Kumar Limbu, MLA, Barchalla, Ajay Tewari, Additional Secretary, MoP, GOI, Akhileshwar Singh, Director (Finance), SJVN, Ajay Singh, CEO, SGEL and Rakesh Kumar, MD, APDCL were also present.

Geeta Kapur, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN informed that SJVN has set its footprint in Assam and is developing three solar projects of 320 MW in the state. The 50 MW Solar Project is being developed in Village Sitalmari, Barsola Block under Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector in District Sonitpur, Assam. It shall be built at the estimated cost of Rs. 291 crores. The project will generate 101 million units of green energy in first year and cumulative energy generation over a period of 25 years shall be about 2319 million units.

This generated energy shall be supplied to Assam Power Development Corporation Limited at Rs 3.92 per unit. This solar project will contribute in the nation’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emission with 1,13,653 tonnes carbon emission reduction. Geeta Kapur further apprised that SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable arm of SJVN is developing three solar projects of 200 MW, 70 MW and 50 MW totalling to 320 MW in the state of Assam.

In a historic achievement, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of 70 MW Solar Project in Dhubri, Assam on March 4, 2024. SJVN, a Mini Ratna, Schedule ‘A’ CPSE under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India has commissioned thirteen projects totalling 2377 MW of installed capacity and 123 km Transmission Lines.

SJVN is on a rapid progression to achieve its Shared Vision of 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040. This Shared Vision has been formulated in sync with the commitment of the Government of India of generating 50% energy from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.
