Spirited Performances during India Open Roller Skating Championship – 2015

roller1Speed, dexterity, strength and stamina was put to test during the two day India Open Roller Skating Championship held here in Shimla from 9th to 10th May, organized by the HS Sports Academy, FGS (Punjab) in collaboration with the Roller Skating Association Shimla. Under the able-guidance and supervision of President Sukhbir Singh, HS Sports Academy; President Amarpreet Mumick, Roller Skating Association Shimla; Secretary Pawan and Skating Chief Official Pankaj Prabhakar, the event was conducted very professionally and efficiently. With more than 200 participants from different states of India namely, Tamil Nadu, Chattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerela, the competition was held for both girls and boys in different age categories, as well as for in-lining and quad skating. The enthusiasm was upbeat and zeal to perform their best was even greater.

Chief Guest for the evening was Deputy Mayor, Tikendar Panwar as he presided over the function on the eve of day two. He congratulated and encouraged the children to perform even better in future events. On a nostalgic note he said, “Shimla’s skating rink has a rich history and many great events have been held here, and steps need to be taken to restore it to its previous glory”. He then awarded medals and certificates to all the winners for both days’ events.

roller2Team Auckland House Girls School was present in full force to participate in various categories under the supervision and guidance of their coach Pankaj Prabhakar and sports teacher Madam Terelene. The girls gave few brilliant performances and took home more than 20 medals collectively. Coach Dheeraj from PT Roller Skating Academy, Gurgaon, had entered three contestants, who made him proud by winning 10 medals in various categories. Children from Little Angels School, Rajpura were very excited on winning more than 20 medals in different categories. Their coach Aman Deep Singh said that about 15 children participated from our school for the first time and it has been a very nice experience. “Our boys entered in the under 8, 10 and 12 categories and really performed well. We have been practicing for more than a month for this event and I am really proud of my students”, he said.

Coach Naveen Singh Rajput from Diksha Skating Academy, Gurgaon was present here with his team — Hitesh, Aditya, Yogesh, Arnav and Kishen Dayal, who participated in different categories and took home a total of 17 medals. Sunil Kumar, father of Kishen Dayal was very excited as his son participated in the under 8 category and won a gold medal. “I am really happy for my son and the training he has received at the academy, as it is the first time he has entered a contest and won, I am very proud of him”, he concluded.

 The evening ended on a high note of celebrations as quite a few children returned home with medals and certificates !!!
