The Himachal Pradesh Government is actively transforming the state’s medical ecosystem to ensure citizens receive advanced, world-class healthcare right near their homes. Driven by a commitment to eliminate staff shortages and elevate clinical standards, large-scale recruitment drives are being executed alongside extensive modernizing initiatives across all state-run hospitals and medical colleges.
To immediately bolster nursing care, 650 Assistant Staff Nurses have been deployed across medical colleges under the Department of Medical Education—including the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Chamiyana—along with 117 nurses stationed at Adarsh Health Institutions. The hiring process for another 1,300 nursing posts is currently progressing rapidly, while a recent Cabinet decision approved the creation of an additional 500 Assistant Staff Nurse positions within the Health Department.
Technical and paramedical teams are also receiving significant manpower boosts. Candidate lists selected via the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Ayog have led to the prompt issuance of appointment letters for 84 Operation Theatre Assistants in Medical Education, 39 in the Health Department, and 21 Radiographers. Furthermore, 17 Pharmacists have been officially appointed, while recruitment is underway for 74 more pharmacists, 66 Medical Laboratory Technicians, 20 Radiographers, 13 Operation Theatre Assistants, 8 Laboratory Assistants, 7 Physiotherapists, and 2 Ophthalmologists.
Looking toward future capacity, the state Cabinet recently sanctioned specialized positions including 30 Radiologists, 13 Clinical Psychologists, and 6 Perfusionists for Medical Education, in addition to 10 Radiographers for Adarsh Health Institutions. Structurally, the government launched a key administrative reform in March 2025 to separate the paramedical and ministerial staff cadres, creating distinct operational management for the Department of Health and the Department of Medical Education.
To make specialized care fully self-sufficient within the state, the government has set a firm deadline of December 31, 2026, to achieve a 90 percent staffing rate for medical, paramedical, and support teams across all state medical colleges. Backing these human resource efforts is a massive capital investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore dedicated exclusively to procuring state-of-the-art medical technology and machinery, ensuring state institutions are fully equipped for long-term excellence.
