To promote equity, accessibility, and high-quality education while establishing uniform national standards, the State Government has launched a significant initiative to affiliate Government Senior Secondary Schools with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The move aims to provide students in Government Schools with education that aligns with nationally recognized curricula, assessment systems, and academic practices.
To implement this plan, schools have begun preparing for affiliation by setting up dedicated CBSE Cells at the Directorate and Deputy Director levels. Principals and Technical Assistants have been trained to manage online submission of the required data and documentation. Of the 130 Government Senior Secondary Schools approved for CBSE affiliation, 118 have already received approval, while the remaining schools are in various stages of the process. The affiliation is being rolled out in a phased and systematic manner to ensure full compliance with CBSE’s infrastructure, academic, and administrative standards.
Director of School Education, Ashish Kohli, clarified that students from CBSE-affiliated Government Schools in the 2025–26 academic session will first appear in CBSE Board Examinations in 2028. Meanwhile, students enrolled in Classes X and XII in 2026–27 will continue to take examinations under the HP Board of School Education, Dharamshala. This phased approach ensures smooth academic progression under the CBSE framework and allows students to complete the prescribed curriculum before board examinations.
In line with CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws and the NEP-aligned structure, affiliated schools will provide education from Balvatika-1 through Class XII. This framework ensures continuity in learning, a strong foundation in early childhood education, and a competency-based, learner-focused approach across all stages.
Through this initiative, the State Government aims to bring Government Schools on par with national standards, improve academic quality, facilitate student mobility across states, and provide equitable educational opportunities. The program reflects the government’s long-term commitment to systemic reforms in school education, in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020.
