Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, emphasized the vital role of Indian Railways as both an economic engine and a symbol of national identity. Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the redeveloped Sullurupeta Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh—part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme— Pemmasani highlighted the transformative vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in modernizing railway infrastructure across India. The redevelopment of Sullurupeta station, undertaken at a cost of ₹14.5 crore, holds strategic significance as it lies in the sacred Tirupati district and serves as the closest rail link to Sriharikota, India’s key spaceport.
Pemmasani noted that railways, which transport over two crore passengers daily and employ millions, are central to India’s growth and modernization efforts. He asserted that infrastructure today goes beyond convenience—it instills confidence and reflects national pride. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, over 1,300 stations across the country are being reimagined for improved accessibility, efficiency, and passenger experience.
Highlighting the scale of development in Andhra Pradesh over the past 11 years, the Minister shared that railway budget allocations for the state surged to ₹9,417 crore in 2025–26—more than ten times the allocation during 2009–2014. During this period, 414 km of new railway lines were added, 1,217 km of tracks were doubled, and 3,748 km electrified. Additionally, 41 major railway projects worth ₹34,700 crore were sanctioned. Andhra Pradesh is also seeing a record 73 railway stations being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat scheme, further strengthening the state’s transport infrastructure and connectivity.
