CM Sukhu on Monday announced that Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda will receive 100 new postgraduate (PG) seats as part of the state government’s plan to strengthen specialist healthcare services.
Addressing the Bal Mela at Nagrota Bagwan, the Chief Minister said the government is working to add 330 PG seats across medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. The move, he said, will increase the availability of specialist doctors and improve healthcare facilities for people across the state.
He added that advanced medical equipment is being installed in government hospitals to reduce dependence on treatment outside the state. Modern facilities, including MRI scanners, PET scanners, CT scanners and advanced cancer care systems, are being introduced, while outdated equipment is being replaced.
Highlighting healthcare achievements, Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to introduce robotic surgery in the government healthcare sector. He said 3 Tesla MRI facilities are being established in government medical colleges, with the facility already available at IGMC Shimla and AIMSS Chamiyana.
Speaking about education reforms, the Chief Minister said nearly 24,000 students have shifted from private schools to 150 government schools following the adoption of the CBSE curriculum. He said government schools will witness major transformation over the next few years with improved infrastructure and teaching standards.
During the event, Sukhu laid foundation stones for a Model Police Station and police housing worth Rs. 8.56 crore, an Old Age Home costing Rs. 9.62 crore and an auditorium project worth Rs. 8.65 crore at Nagrota Bagwan.
The Chief Minister also announced the opening of a Mini Secretariat at Baroh, upgrading of the Baroh Police Chowki into a Police Station and elevation of the Serathana health centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Sukhu reiterated that the government is working towards making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, prosperous and among the leading states of India by 2032. He said governance reforms and effective implementation of policies remain the focus of the government.
Recalling the contribution of former minister G.S. Bali, the Chief Minister said his role in the development of Nagrota Bagwan and Himachal Pradesh will always be remembered. He also appreciated local MLA and HPTDC Chairman R.S. Bali for accelerating development works in the constituency.
