Education Minister Rohit Thakur chaired a high-level review meeting today with senior officials of the Education Department to assess the progress of various recruitment drives, government schemes, and infrastructure restoration efforts across the state. He emphasized the need to accelerate recruitment and repair works to ensure uninterrupted educational services.

To address staff shortages in schools, the Minister instructed that all sanctioned teaching and non-teaching posts be immediately forwarded to the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and State Selection Board to initiate the recruitment process without further delay. Reviewing vacancies for TGTs, JBTs, vernacular language teachers (Punjabi and Urdu), coaches, and DPEs, he urged officials to closely monitor pending cases to ensure timely appointments. He underscored that adequate staffing is essential for maintaining quality education and minimizing disruption for students.

In the context of Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) engaged in Classes 9 and 10, Thakur directed Deputy Directors to document and share success stories and innovative teaching practices across districts. He also issued a strong message regarding promotions—PGTs failing to join their new postings within the given timeframe will face withdrawal of promotions, with the opportunity passed on to the next eligible candidate.

On the infrastructure front, the Minister reviewed proposals for opening new primary schools and instructed that all procedural requirements be completed promptly so these can be placed before the State Cabinet for approval. He also directed officials to fast-track formalities for the upcoming Kendriya Vidyalayas in Kotkhai and Paonta Sahib to make them operational soon.

Addressing the damage caused to educational institutions by recent natural disasters, Thakur revealed that over 1,320 institutions were impacted, resulting in losses of approximately Rs. 122 crore. He ordered the speedy restoration of affected schools using Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) funds, prioritizing institutions with more than 75% damage. He also mandated that utilization reports be submitted within five days, warning that unused funds will be reallocated to schools in urgent need.

To improve educational standards and accountability, the Minister instructed the Deputy Directors of Secondary, Elementary, and Quality Education to increase the frequency and scope of school inspections across the state.

Reviewing the implementation of the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojna, Thakur emphasized ensuring that all eligible students benefit from the 1% interest education loan scheme for pursuing higher studies.

A comprehensive presentation was also shared during the meeting, highlighting the Education Department’s achievements, reforms, and initiatives from January 2023 to the present.
