National Science Day in India is celebrated on 28 February each year because on this date, Dr. C.V. Raman announced his discovery of the Raman Effect in 1928. The Raman Effect is a phenomenon in physics that explains how light changes its wavelength when it passes through different materials, and this discovery was so significant that Dr. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
