1889- फ्रांस की राजधानी पेरिस में स्थित विश्वप्रसिद्ध एफिल टावर आधिकारिक रूप से जनता के लिए खोला गया।
1910- ब्रिटिश शासक एडवर्ड सप्तम के निधन के बाद उनका बेटा जार्ज पंचम गद्दी पर बैठा।
1942- प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ एवं मिज़ोरम के तीसरे मुख्यमंत्री लल थनहवला का जन्म।
1944- पुणे के आगा खान पैलेस से गांधीजी रिहा हुए।
1953- पूर्व ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर का जन्म।
1967- ज़ाकिर हुसैन भारत के पहले मुस्लिम राष्ट्रपति बने।
1997- फ़्रांस की क्रिस्टिन जेनिन ध्रुव पर पैदल पहुंचने वाली विश्व की प्रथम महिला बनी।
2004- चीन ने सिक्किम को भारत का अंग माना।
2005- संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने लश्कर-ए-तैयबा को आतंकवादी संगठन की सूची में डाला।
2006- टाइटैनिक के डूबने की घटना की आखिरी चश्मदीद गवाह अमेरिकी नागरिक लिलियन एस्प्लंट का निधन।
2007- फ़्रांस के राष्ट्रपति के चुनाव में निकोलस सार्कोजी जीते।
2008- बांग्लादेश में एंटी करप्शन ब्यूरो ने पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री ख़ालिदा जिया के ख़िलाफ़ भ्रष्टाचार के मामले में पहली बार आरोप पत्र दाखिल किया।
2010- मुंबई में हुए 26/11 हमले के दोषी अजमल आमिर कसाब को मौत की सज़ा सुनाई गई।
2010- भोजपुरी फ़िल्म निर्देशक (नदिया के पार) गोविंद मुनीस का निधन।

1932 – French President Paul Doumer was assassinated by a Russian emigre in Paris.
1937 – The German airship Hindenburg burst into flames on arrival at Lakehurst, New Jersey; 36 people were killed but 62 escaped.
1954 – Britain’s Roger Bannister became the first athlete to run a mile in under 4 minutes, recording a time of three minutes 59.4 seconds.
1968 – Street fighting in Paris gripped the Left Bank as students and police fought for control of the fashionable Boulevard St Germain.
1992 – Marlene Dietrich, film’s legendary femme fatale, died. The German-born actress shot to fame as the cabaret singer Lola-Lola in “The Blue Angel” and then took Hollywood by storm.
1994 – The Channel Tunnel opened, linking Britain and France by rail.
2001 – World’s first space tourist Dennis Tito returns to Earth with two Russian cosmonauts after an historic voyage that cost Tito $14million.
2002 – The Dutch anti-immigrant politician Pim Fortuyn was shot dead as he left a radio interview in Hilversum.
2007 – The conservative Nicolas Sarkozy was elected French president, beating his Socialist rival Segolene Royal by a comfortable margin and extending the right’s 12-year grip on power.
