A designated playground in Tutikandi, routinely used by local children for sports and recreation, has reportedly been converted into a dumping site for waste and heavy materials, causing outrage among parents and area residents.
The site, which serves as one of the few open recreational areas for neighbourhood youth, has grown increasingly hazardous and unusable due to ongoing dumping activities. According to Pratap Thakur, a local resident who regularly uses the facility, the influx of debris has stripped children of a safe environment to play.
The neglect has sparked sharp criticism from the community, particularly as Tutikandi falls within the constituency of Shimla Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal. Residents are questioning how public land intended for community welfare could be repurposed into a makeshift dump without administrative intervention.
The situation underscores a growing pattern of administrative apathy toward maintaining public parks and playgrounds across Shimla. Local residents have urged the Municipal Corporation to immediately clarify who authorized the dumping, specify the nature of the materials being deposited, and establish a firm timeline for clearing the debris and restoring the ground.
